Day Tripper: Notting Hill Carnival

I’ve long heard tales of Notting Hill Carnival and when this year’s event coincided with my friend Jenny’s visit to the city we decided to head down and see what all the fuss was about.  We went to Children’s Day arriving nice and early at around 10.30am.  Having taken a few wrong turns navigating the walk from the station we were surprised to see only a few stands set up.  It turns out that the 10am starting time slot is merely a guide and, as one policeman told us, we needed to embrace the Caribbean carnival spirit and take the day in our stride.  Sadly we couldn’t stay for the main parade – I think it kicked off around 3 or 4pm – but we had a great time nonetheless.  We even got to visit the famous Notting Hill bookshop from the film!  We just missed Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts but maybe we’ll see them next time round, eh?

Something different

H A P P Y  M O N D A Y!

Sorry I’ve been a wee bit quiet these past couple of weeks.  Work has reached another busy phase and a lot of other things seem to have faded into the background…except they haven’t really!  I’ve been a busy bee filming videos and taking pictures although I’m chasing my tail a bit now trying to edit them all!

A chance encounter

This was not the post I imagined I would share with you today.  It’s still late evening the night before you’ll read this and I’m currently sweating in bed thanks to the world’s warmest duvet.

Today has been pretty hot and while I ventured out briefly during the day the clamminess meant I put exercise off until much later.  So at around 9.30pm I took myself off for a brisk walk along the South Bank before heading homeward.  I love to people watch my way along the route and I always feel at my most creative when walking as it allows me a bit of breathing space to make some sense of the ideas that zip around my head during the week.

July Favourites

It’s that time again folks!  July was a whistle-stop tour of all things food and friendship as I flew home not once but twice to see my loved ones.

I also had visitors and really enjoyed playing tour guide to my mum and my pal Jenny who popped down for the amazing Bette Midler concert.  So without further ado here were my best bits from July:

Happy Birthday Mama T!
