One of my happiest memories from 2015 was a trip I took with my friends, Sophie and Sophie, to Reykjavik, Iceland. We met back in 2005 when we were English Language Assistants living and working in Germany. We wanted to celebrate the tenth year of our friendship with a trip, since we travelled a lot together in during our year abroad.
I’d always wanted to visit Iceland and we had all heard good things from a flurry of friends and colleagues who had already been so we got ourselves booked and off we flew to the land of fire and ice.
Even though we only spent a long weekend in Iceland we managed to pack a lot in. The capital city is smaller than Belfast and easy to navigate on foot and our AirBnB apartment was centrally located so we could easily and safely get home if we had been out late at night.
We opted to go on two trips with Reykjavik Excursions – to the Blue Lagoon and the Golden Circle. Both trips were great and the Golden Circle one was the highlight of my trip. Our guide, Höskuldur was so friendly and knowledgable and seeing as there were only three of us on the tour he let us stay a little longer in our favourite spots. If you’re travelling to Iceland I can’t recommend them enough!
I hope you enjoy the video. Let me know if you’d like to know more about the highlights of our trip. I’d be happy to write another post rather than overload you with information in this one.
Until next time,
L X

In search of adventure…

Mercifully, unnecessary.
Hi Laura! I have always quite fancied a trip to Iceland, but this post, and the fantastic video in particular have really inspired me. Please write another post, I’d love to hear more about your trip! Also, what a great way to celebrate 10 years of friendship 🙂

Hi Katie, that’s so kind! You’ve really made my morning; I’m so glad you enjoyed it! OK, challenge accepted. Is there anything in particular you would like to know more about? You would love it there. My friend Lorna has just been and she had a great time in Winter too.X

Well I’m curious about what that bread-bowl in your photo is, for a start! It looks like something that Michael Palin talks about in his book, New Europe, though I can’t remember which country he ate it in.
I guess I’d maybe just like some more details of your itinerary and costs, and recommendations…..I’m not being very specific, I know!! Or even just anecdotes from your time there – I’m sure there will be some funny story or other, just waiting to be told 🙂 I think we would probably be going in April if we go this year (fingers crossed!!!) and I am really keen to try Air BnB (my parents have done it, but not me…..are my parents cooler than me?!) xx
