Sweet Cheat: DIY Bounty Bars

If you’ve ever fancied yourself as Willy Wonka’s protégé now’s your chance to dabble in the delectable  dark (chocolate) arts by making treats that will rival the most popular shop bought chocolate bars.

I used to love Bounty bars when I was wee but the truth is they are so easy – and cheap – to recreate at home there’s really no need to buy them in the shops.

To make your Bounty base, all you need are 8oz desiccated coconut, 2tbsp icing sugar and 1 tin of condensed milk.

Mix them all together until they form a gooey mass which you then want to press into a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper.  Pop them in the fridge while you melt a bar of chocolate.

Once melted pour your chocolate on top and spread out so the entire base is covered. Then pop back into the fridge to set.  I also added some freeze dried strawberries – they tasted great – play about with it and see what you like best.

If you’re in a rush just pop your tin in the freezer for around half an hour but if you can leave it in the fridge overnight that is ideal.  Once set you want to turn the slab out onto a bread board chocolate side down and cut into squares.  In an airtight tin these will last 3-5 days (so I’m told!)

Until next time,

L X
